Harvesting Egusi

Sometime in April 2018, we cleared the field and planted Egusi seed which is the name for the fat- and protein-rich seeds of certain cucurbitaceous plants (squash, melon, gourd). But in this case, it was melon.

Three months later, we happily harvested the fruits of our labour. It was so exciting and fulfilling.

This is mostly practised by a beekeeper who has one or more established hive from which they expand their apiary by propagating from hive to hive.

This involves taking away some top bars which have brood combs to the new hive.
  

Orientation

The orientation program for the 2018 trainees of Leventis Foundation Nigeria/FCT Agricultural Training School, Yaba, Abaji - Abuja took place from Monday 5th March through Friday 9th March 2018.

One year training programme for young farmers in modern and sustainable agricultural practices

The Leventis Foundation (Nigeria) is a charitable company founded in honour of A.G Leventis a Cypriot businessman who founded a major merchandise trading firm, A.G. Leventis (Nigeria) Plc, in West Africa.

The Foundation has been running agricultural training for youths and farmers since 1988 and currently has five schools in the different agro-ecological zones in Nigeria. The schools located in the FCT, Osun, Kaduna, Kano and Gombe States are co-financed by Leventis Foundation and the respective State Governments. All the schools offer training to young people (male and female) desirous of making a good career in farming. The comprehensive one-year training exposes the participants to several areas of agriculture and other farm businesses.

Neksummi Hammadu Matthias, CEO Neksummi Global Services in his quest to diversify into the field of Agriculture has decided to gain first-hand knowledge by enrolling into one of their five schools in Nigeria; Leventis Foundation Nigeria/FCT Agricultural Training school, Yaba, Abaji Area Council, Abuja – FCT.
